NEWS, EVENTS, AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Robert Morris Society Summer Meeting

The Robert Morris Society will hold its Summer Meeting in Washington D.C. on Friday, June 25. The meeting will commence with the Society luncheon featuring Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, chairman of the Republican Governors Association (RGA).

Society members will then gain access to a confidential briefing detailing how the states are dealing with the federal government’s takeover of the health care system.  Members will hear from leading experts and governors’ senior staff about the impact that the new law will have on state budgets, the economy and the quality of our health care system as well as what steps states are taking to battle the most pernicious elements of the law.

Following the health care briefing, members will receive a confidential briefing on the RGA’s latest campaign strategies.  Top political strategists and RGA operatives will detail for members the RGA’s 2010 campaign efforts and how the RGA plans to retake the majority of governorships in November.  With 37 races taking place and redistricting on the horizon, there has never been a more important gubernatorial election cycle than the one taking place this year.

The day will conclude with the 2010 Comeback Reception with invited host Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, a member of the RGA’s executive committee.

Celebration of America’s Leaders Gala

Robert Morris Society Members were invited to join Republican governors Haley Barbour, Tim Pawlenty, Linda Lingle, Rick Perry, Bob McDonnell and Bobby Jindal for a full day of meetings, culminating with the Celebration of America’s Leaders Gala in the evening.

The day began with a “2010 War Room” strategy session with RGA leadership and top political minds from the other Republican campaign committees.  Society Members heard details of the RGA’s plans to take back a majority of governorships, and they helped shape RGA’s strategy by sharing their views on the issues expected to dominate the 2010 elections.

Immediately following the “War Room,” Society Members joined Republican governors at a luncheon keynoted by a leading figure in the conservative movement. Previous keynote speakers during Gala weekend include President George W. Bush and Senator John McCain.

In the afternoon, Society Members gathered for a “Pundits & Pollsters” Panel Discussion with some of the most respected political minds in the country.  Past RGA speakers include The Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol, National Review’s Byron York, and Breitbart.com founder Andrew Breitbart.

The day concluded with the “Celebration of America’s Leaders Gala,” which is the premier Robert Morris Society event of the year.
